Welcome to Animals ≠ Things
This website is all about understanding and appreciating the incredible intelligence, emotions, and moral capacity of animals.
We believe that animals are not just “things,” but sentient beings who deserve to be treated with respect and empathy.
Here, you’ll learn about the latest research on cross-species empathy, animal intelligence, and cross-species communication. You’ll discover the fascinating ways that animals think, feel, and communicate with one another, and learn about the moral considerations that arise when we interact with them. We also share interesting projects and organizations that are working towards creating a better world for animals.
In addition, we provide information about possible career paths in the field of animal welfare and rights, as well as where to study to gain the knowledge and skills needed to make a difference. We want to inspire the next generation to take action and make a positive impact in the world for animals.
My hope is that when people experience that animals are also empathetic, that they are intelligent, and most importantly, that one day we will be able to communicate with animals in a way that allows us to understand what their basic needs are, then hopefully people will pave the way for a respectful coexistence in which animals and people can coexist in harmony with nature. You can look the other way, you can also try not to listen, but once you’ve heard something, you can’t go unheard. There are promising approaches to opening up communication channels to non-human animals using artificial intelligence and machine learning. Let them have a voice. It’s time for that.
We also want to raise awareness about the importance of granting legal rights to animals so that they can be recognized as beings with inherent value. We believe that by recognizing animals as legal persons, we can ensure that they are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.
Our goal is to create a more just and compassionate world where animals are no longer seen as “things” but as sentient beings who have a voice in the legal system. We hope you’ll join us in this mission and learn more about the amazing animals that share our planet, and how you can make a difference in their lives.
